Canadian and US taxes

Published

Hi There!

I am a Canadian nurse who recently relocated to California. I will be training in City of Hope Hospital.

My question is: I know I will be taxed on my income in California but I don't know if I will also be taxed in Canada (since I am still a resident of Canada). Does anyone know how it works? Is it beneficial to apply for nonresidency in Canada?

The less tax I have to pay the better!! :rotfl:

Thanks for your help!!

You will only be taxed in the US, though you can file in Canada as well if you want.

would there be any benefit to filing then? I just don't want to unintentially commit tax fraud :rotfl:

Hmmmnn, not sure, sorry.

Shy you need to file your return in the US however it depends on when you left Canada...If you leave in the middle of the year you need to file in both...If you file in Canada you need to file both incomes its considered your worldly income...It stinks I know but thats the way it is...

sorry but we all have to do it..
