Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone might have any information about how a Canadian (me) could find work in the US. Up here in Canada, I am a Registered Practical Nurse. (LPN in USA) I specialize in a Medium Secure Forensic setting in a Government Psychiatric Hospital.

Is the RPN license recognized on par in the US?

Any idea?

Hello Joel,

I am a fairly new RPN, and I searched out the same question. You'll hear yes and no from a variety of people and places. The true answer is no. RPN's aren't recognized under the NAFTA visa, only RN's. You could apply for a green card but your name would go to the bottom of the pile and it could take up to 3 years. I was so upset when I graduated because I couldnt find a job. Right now I have a casual position in Ontario where I live and I commute to the USA every day to a bridging program. I should have my RN in 1 year. As soon as I get it, I'll go to the USA. I've seen sign on and relocation bonuses for up to 10, 000. Good luck finding that in Ontario!!!

thanks kindly for the info.....what a drag
