Canadian RPN moving to Australia

Updated:   Published

I am graduating as an RPN in less than three months (yay). I am considering moving to Australia in 2014. I'm looking for any and all advice! Like what agencies should I contact?

I am also considering continuing my education to get my RN. Are there any good bridging programs worth checking out?

Thanks!

The Canadian RPN is not recognized in Australia. Yes, we do have EENs (the equivalent of an LPN/RPN) but only international RNs are accepted by AHPRA as the scope of practice for second level nurses is so confusing and often varied state by state. I had worked with someone who was a second level nurse in Canada/uk I forget; and despite her experience had to re do the entire australian EEN 18 month diploma course.

I recommend getting your RN and experience and then coming over to Aus. Or move here and become a student and pay the ridiculously high international student fees.

I would get your information from ahpra you can be licensed in Australia as a EEN with what you are asking.LPN from USA can also be licensed here.you would only have to complete another 1.5 yrs but your RN degree would be deficient to meet USA and Canadian standards
