Hi,
I have read through a few thread and have learned just how strict the California Board of Nursing is
I will be completing my BSN in Canada very soon. I previously lived in Southern California and would really like to return there. However, I am getting the feeling that the BON will reject me because I did not have a specific OB placement (I am however doing my final consolidation in the NICU).
I think my options are:
1. graduate school here in Canada, write the nclex here in Canada and then apply for a license by endorsement
OR
2. finish my schooling here and then just apply to write the NCLEX in the USA. Maybe it is easier to just get approved to write the NCLEX first? Rather than approved for a license?
I am I should note that I am a US citizen and have a SSN - in case that helps my case at all... any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You don’t endorse a license between Canada and the US. The only thing transferable is NCLEX. It is up to you whether you apply to Canada or the US first but the process could take 4-6 months for the US state to decide if you meet requirements or not
Sorry I am a little confused by that...
One can definitely obtain their license in Canada (as per their provincial college aka board) then apply for licensure by endorsement in their desired US state.
My thinking was that the analysts might be less strict for the "licensure by examination" because they are just granting you the opportunities to take the NCLEX, which might weed out poor candidates anyway, whereas the "licensure by endorsement" folks seems to be incredibly strict. I'm not too worried about waiting an additional couple of months. I just want my education approved by cali BON ?
I believe only one state will endorse from Canada otherwise every other state treats Canada like every other country and you apply as international applicant. Even if you get a license in one state and apply to another that state may want you to apply as international because you trained outside the US. California definitely treats everyone who trained outside the US as international and we have seen many nurses be refused license via endorsement because they do their own assessment
Yes that is exactly what I am talking about.
