I am just wondering if anyone has ever ran across working with an unlicensed receptionist that gives and akes verbal orders and phones and faxes in RX? Also as the only licensed nurses (other than the MD) can I be held liable for this?
Any infor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Not in any hospital I've ever worked in. And I've worked in hospitals in New York State and Florida. The 'nurse' in my PCP office is an LPN. I did have the unfortunate experience of taking orders from a P.A. back in 1980, who was always getting the doses wrong. Upon asking, I learned that he had never attended a formal program(at the time Florida did not require P.A.'s to attend formal programs). I informed the physician that I would no longer accept orders from his P.A. and why. Other nurses followed my lead and the P.A. went back to college for a proper education.
A physician is responsible for anyone who dispenses orders or information for that physician. And only a fool allows someone to give incorrect information in his name.
