Can someone tell me what exactly a VEC surgery is?

Not sure if i spelled it right. I am guessing it stands for lady partsl something? I'm precepting on a floor that takes gyn surgeries and i've helped care for a few pts who've had this. i know it is some kind of lady partsl reconstuction, and they must undergo a voiding trial before going home and they have like 6 feet of packing that is removed by the MD at their next outpt appt.. but i honestly dont know exactly what the procedure is and what the letters stand for.

any help?

Could it be laparoscopic Vecchietti procedure? VEC does not seem to be an acronym; rather, it could be a shorten form of the Vecchietti procedure.

hmm.. that could be it. interesting. im not completely sure though. some of the pts have had trochar sites, but some have incisions in the pubic region. they seem to have a lot of pain in the pubic region, requiring ice packs and analgesics. we usually start them off with motrin or tylenol, and then move on to percocet and sometimes morphine.. im definitely asking my preceptor when i go back in on saturday, but this sounds like it could be the thing im looking for.

edit: im pretty sure ive heard talks of bladder slings with these pts too.. but i may be mixing up my gyn surgeries. hah

If you're taking care of these patients, you should know what surgical procedure they had. Look in the chart and there should be a section where the surgeon writes a Operative Note that details what was done. You can also ask the nurses and surgeons taking care of the patient. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the staff. If you're assigned to a patient, you should be informed about what they had done!

i know, thats why im trying to find out on my own time. when im there everything is so busy, i get the general rundown of what they are there for but no one goes over the complete details of the surgery. i agree, if i didnt know, i should have asked. i know all the protocols and care for that kind of pt, and i know its some kind of lady partsl reconstruction, just not EXACLY sure what they did in there. lol. well im heading off to work now anyway, suppose i will ask someone when i get there!
