Hi I'm winding down my first semester in nursing school, I have piled up a whole bunch of debt from family. Does anyone know of any jobs, perferably nurse related that I can apply to!? PLease Help...NYC or Long IsLand!:typing

Well, I believe you can be a CNA in a hospital after you finish 1st semester. You can where I live. It is less skilled than nursing but, it allows a lot of patient interaction (actually more than you get as a nurse!) and sometimes if your facility has nurses who enjoy teaching, they will let you help or observe procedures. This would have to be within your scope of practice of course, but all CNA's can take vital signs and measure pt intake. They can measure output on Foleys and sometimes drains. If the patient doesn't mind you can even practice listening to heart and lung sounds on them! CNA's also observe patient skin condition, reporting to the RN any problems, and do bathing, turning and mobilization of pts. Some CNA's are even trained to draw blood and do portable ECG's, I was. Lots of skills as a CNA help you in the field of nursing. Look on the internet, most hospitals have a website with an employment section you can check out to see if they have jobs available, you could even apply to be a tech in the ER if you know how to draw blood or they are willing to train you. Good Luck!
