Can a nurse legally refuse to take a new admit when already have heavy patient load

and you know you will not be able to properly take care or even admit patient without

neglecting other patients?

I did this yesterday and had four managers having a fit!! One told me to leave if I did not take patient.

One called my agency and complained about me.

Would they rather I accept a patient and give sub standard care to existing patients in order to admit new one?

California, but there may be federal guidelines.

Concerning LTC ratios.

Ill tell you what pisses me off about this whole matter...i dont do LT care so maybe me three cents aren't welcome here but I have seen, on more than one occasion, a charge nurse get bullied into taking in admissions that the floor could not handle because the house supervisor was a witch (who probably can't even remember how to turn an iv pump on) and i can remember on one particular day her even saying that she wasn't going to argue with the charge nurse anymore, we were getting the patient, she didn't care if the nurse sat in the hall until 1930.

hows that for your legal right to refuse?
