I’m under the impression that PAs can easily switch specialties. I’m trying to decide between PA and NP. I ask because it makes a difference of weather I go to nursing school or do something like health science/biology undergrad for PA. I ask because I would like to work in different areas such as ER, ICU, cardiology, primary care, pulmonology, NICU, PICU.

Like NP, PA requires a residency specialization. To work in a NICU, you would be required to be either NNP or PA that went through a Neonatology residency. You can not work Adult ICU and then a year later apply for a NICU or PICU position without additional training.
