I am working LTC and our DNS is an LVN? and whats the difference between our DON and our DNS? Sometimes all these titles gets confusing! thanks :nurse:

In some states an LPN can be a DON. DNS and DON are differently worded titles for the same position. If your facility has both, then their jobs must be different in some manner. Ask. In home health agencies, the position is usually called something like DPCS, Director of Patient Care Services.

Thank you & yes we have a DON, an ADON and a DNS! Lol I am not a brand new nurse but only for a few years and somehow I've gotten all confused. Then was shocked that our DNS is an LVN. They all have seperate offices and really not sure how all their rolls play out differently.

I worked for a facility that was bought by a corporation that brought in a lot of people who walked around in business attire and high heels with fancy title this and fancy title that. It was not very funny that they laid off working nurses and nursing assistants to accommodate these fluff titled positions. Just stay out of the way of all of them, no matter what their title!

All I know that I have alot of people over me but I'm not quite sure of their rolls and how they differ from each other

Well, don't worry about it until the time comes that you have a problem then start with your immediate supervisor.
