where can lpns get hired?what would you recommend?

I was wonderin, once I finish school as an LPN, where in massachusetts can I get hired? Do hospitals normally hire lpns? The director of my school says that mostly VA hospitals hire them in my area. I eventually want to be in the maternity and/or the neonatal nursing....but I am not sure if they allow LPNs to work in those areas, even if they have an rn supervising?... Does anyone know what the average pay rate is for each type of employment? And what would you suggest?(Doctors office, neighborhood health center, hospital, nursing home, assisted livin, traveling?) If you happen to work in any of these areas, what is the biggest responsiblity you encounter on a normal basis? I am just curious as to where I am gonna head towards when I actually go to get a job....(i will be bridging my lpn to an rn, although my rn will take some time since I am gonna take it part time so I can work and spend time with my 1 year old)
