Hi all,
I'm due for graduation May 13, 2011 with my ADN! YAY! Anyhow, I was wondering if any military branch accepts an ADN. I've yet to talk to any recruiters, but just from internet research, I see the Army did accept ADN's. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Yes. You can join the military with an ADN degree. Unfortunately, you cannot work as an RN. You'll have to find a job in the enlisted corps.
Thanks for the reply, well, thats not what I was hoping to hear. Since I plan to further my education I can always try again later.

breann, ADNs were still accepted by army reserve but this was in a limited capacity and is actually being phased out of practice even though it might meet baseline requirements - not accepted based on the applicant pool and stiff competition. I'd recommend you look at your states Air and Army national guard to see their standards and then look at the timeline for you to get BSN - as that is truly the goal you should be after to serve as a commissioned nurse.
congrats on upcoming graduation.

I've heard that the Army Nurse Corps actually made their recruiting mission last year. For sure they will only take BSNs on active duty. All the other branches of the Army require their officers to have a bachelor's degree and the nurse corps needs to stay on par with that standard. Anyway, I hope you have smooth sailing as you earn your BSN and then apply for a commission. You may try your hand at ROTC too if you are looking at maybe getting a scholarship.
...the army has had no problem meeting recruitment for nursing for the past several years. in fact it is extremely competitive pool to get in.

I personally know of an Army Paramedic who has his ADN and is using the Army educatioal money to pay for his BSN degree.
Yes the STRAP program has been available.
That being said to get in at this point with ADN has been a base line requirement for reserve but is effectively being phased out due to stiff competition.. OP can check with local units to see IF they have nurses / nursing units in area... then check competitiveness.. and check with guard units to see if they have a need and what the requirement is.
Thanks for the responses everyone! Ill look into my local recruitment for more answers :-)
