Can I work as a nurse in the UK or Ireland if i tested positive in hepatitis b?

Is it possible for me to land a job as a nurse in the UK or Ireland if i am tested positive for hepatitis B?

I am a chronic carrier of hepatitis b, i think i got it from my mom since she also tested positive with it. I am a registered nurse in the Philippines. I already have an employer in the UK and i am currently reviewing for my IELTS. I am scared of what will be the result of my medical exam if ever i would pass my IELts. Im scared that my employer would withdraw their job offer if they would find out that I have hepatitis b. To all of the nurses who have the same case as me, please enlighten me about the procedures and their policy. I really want to work abroad to help my family.

Hi qwerty, I also have the same dilemma with you. I just want to ask if you pursue your plan going to the UK. How was it going? Do you know if they accept applicants with Chronic Hepatitis b?

Yes you can.. As long as your hbv dna is below 10^3 genome equivalent/ml and you're not doing EPP or exposure prone procedures.

Yes I did. I'm currently working as nurse here in the UK. Immigration has nothing to do with your illness.

Do we need to have Hepatitis B screening when applying as a Nurse in UK or it is not required? hoping for your response thank you

Hi bbbsss, yes it is required to have Hepatitis B screening here in the UK. But you can still work as a nurse here even if you are hepatitis b positive.
