Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and am SO excited to be starting my path to become an RN. I am actually 31, married, have 2 children, and have a Bachelor's in Special Education. Nursing has always been a passion of mine and I started as a nursing major at Southern IL University-Edwardsville...but I changed my major to special education my 2nd year because that too was a passion of mine. However, I have always regretted changing my major and am now wanting to start this journey! I live in Putnam county, FL and about 15 minutes from SJRCC. I will be starting school in Spring 14 at Palatka for my pre-reqs. I am waiting on my official transcripts from my previous degree and wonder how well they will transfer to SJRCC? I've had plenty of English classes, I had Bacteriolgy (much like Microbiology), and I had a couple Psych courses. Not sure what this Humanities course is?? I had a couple of Interdisciplanary Courses at SIUE and wonder if they would count as the same thing. I'm pretty certain I had Human Growth and Development based off my other degree...and I know I had a Health and Nutrition class. The main thing I am missing is Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2. I figured that I would have to take 1 before 2...but if I take AP 1 in the Spring...and AP 2 in the Fall....then I can't apply for the nursing program until Spring 15?? I'm getting a second dgree and I know I could go to an Accelerated BSN program...but it's just too far away and we can't relocate right now because of my husband's job. So for anybody wanting to get into the program at SJRCC...how long did it take you to do the pre-reqs? What is the test I have to take to apply for nursing program? And is the waitlist for Palatka very long? Hopefully I can get most of these questions answered when I go in and meet with an advisor...but I also don't want to be blind sided. Thank you for any info you have!!

Seems to me you will be applying to the spring 15 program because A&P 1 and 2 both have labs. The professor who teaches the courses is tough. The entrance exam is called the hesi. Who gets selected is determined by which category you fall into. With your prereq gpa and hesi score. Category 1 gets selected first then they will select from Category 2 Good luck!
