SJRSC Spring 2014 applying/hopeful
I have orientation at SJR-Palatka tomorrow and I'm supposed to meet with a counselor about classes then. Are you guys in classes right now that are pre-reqs for nursing? Can I apply to the nursing program while taking on of the pre-reqs? My plan is to take Human Anatomy 1 in the Spring with a couple of other courses....and then HA 2 in the summer. The nursing application deadline is May 31st for the Fall program...I believe. So now I am wondering if I will be able to go ahead and apply then?? I also want to take chemistry at some point because I want to get my BSN sometime after I start working....and I think that's a pre-req for BSN, but not ADN...am I right?

Oh and I'm hoping the Bacteriology transfers and equals the credit I needed for Microbiology. Fingers crossed!

SJRSC Spring 2014 applying/hopeful
Hey girls! Congratulations on making it into the program for Spring 14! I just recently decided to go back to school for nursing (2nd degree). I have a Bachelor's in Special Education...but nursing has always been a passion. I'm 31, married, and have 2 young children. Am I nuts or what?? Anyway, since I already have a BA...I am hoping most of the pre-reqs I need for nursing will transfer. The only things I need are...AP 1 & AP 2...and maybe Microbiology. I took Bacteriology because I was a nursing major first, then switched to Education after my freshman year. I had a passion for both majors...ultimately decided on Special Education...and now I somewhat regret it and really really want to get my nursing degree! I am going to SJR-Palatka in the morning to turn in my official transcripts and a few other forms. I want to talk to an advisor quickly and see if there is any way I can knock AP 1 and AP 2 before May 2014. That's the deadline to get into the program for next Fall. Have you guys ever heard of anyone taking them together? I'm highly motivated and know that I can do it....I'm just not sure if the college will let me! Again...am I nuts? Congrats again and best of luck!

Can I take AP 1 and 2 together at SJRCC?
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and am SO excited to be starting my path to become an RN. I am actually 31, married, have 2 children, and have a Bachelor's in Special Education. Nursing has always been a passion of mine and I started as a nursing major at Southern IL University-Edwardsville...but I changed my major to special education my 2nd year because that too was a passion of mine. However, I have always regretted changing my major and am now wanting to start this journey! I live in Putnam county, FL and about 15 minutes from SJRCC. I will be starting school in Spring 14 at Palatka for my pre-reqs. I am waiting on my official transcripts from my previous degree and wonder how well they will transfer to SJRCC? I've had plenty of English classes, I had Bacteriolgy (much like Microbiology), and I had a couple Psych courses. Not sure what this Humanities course is?? I had a couple of Interdisciplanary Courses at SIUE and wonder if they would count as the same thing. I'm pretty certain I had Human Growth and Development based off my other degree...and I know I had a Health and Nutrition class. The main thing I am missing is Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2. I figured that I would have to take 1 before 2...but if I take AP 1 in the Spring...and AP 2 in the Summer....then I can't apply for the nursing program until Spring 15?? I'm getting a second dgree and I know I could go to an Accelerated BSN program...but it's just too far away and we can't relocate right now because of my husband's job. So for anybody wanting to get into the program at SJRCC...how long did it take you to do the pre-reqs? What is the test I have to take to apply for the nursing program? And is the waitlist for Palatka very long? Hopefully I can get most of these questions answered when I go in and meet with an advisor...but I also don't want to be blind sided. Thank you for any info you have!!
