A B visa (B-1/B-2 visa) is a non-immigrant visa for visitors who come to the U.S. for temporary business (B-1) or tourism (B-2). However, this visa is generally not appropriate for working in a nursing position, as it does not allow for employment or receiving a salary.
To work as a nurse in the U.S., you would typically need a work visa, such as:
H-1B Visa: For specialty occupations, including nursing, if you have a bachelor's degree in nursing or an equivalent.
TN Visa (for Canadian and Mexican citizens under NAFTA/USMCA): Nurses who meet the requirements can apply for this visa.
EB-3 Visa: This is an employment-based immigrant visa for skilled workers, which would be relevant if you seek to work as a nurse in the U.S permanently.
You'll also need to meet licensing requirements for nurses in the state where you plan to work, which typically involves passing the NCLEX-RN exam and obtaining state licensure.
If you are on a B visa and want to pursue a nursing position, you'd need to apply for a change of status or a different visa that allows you to work legally in the U.S.
Best wishes,
Nurse Beth
