Can I complete pre-req's at more than one campus for Baker College

Hello,

I was just accepted into the Nursing Program starting Winter semester at Baker of Flint! Yes, you can take a prereq class at another Baker campus. You just can't apply to the Nursing Program at any other campus except the one where you made Nursing your Major...

Congratulations!! That is so awesome. So.... let me pick your brain a little bit:chuckle What was your GPA? Did you get in the first time you applied? Any words of wisdom for me? I hope to be applying for fall '10. Right now I have a 4.0 and I'm trying so, so, so hard to keep that. I really, really want to get in! For winter I'm taking A & P II and I need to take Micro in order to do the last 3 classes I need to apply. There are no micro classes left @ Flint, so I'm considering taking the class in Auburn Hills. Do you know the process for signing up for classes at a different campus? I would really appreciate your input... I'm always wanting to ask the nursing students at school all of these questions, like while standing in line in the cafeteria! But, I never have. Thanks again!!

Congrats jcolli01 on getting into the program! :yeah: I am also Baker(Flint). I am going to be starting my 4th semester. Good Luck and congrats again. ( When did you guys find out you got in? We had to wait for our certified letter to come Christmas Eve last year! It was a bummer for those that didnt make it!)

destiny4nursing: I am not sure, I think you can but I would call and ask first. I might call the Health Sciences Office.

As far as getting into the program, grades count but so does your HESI score. Get a good study guide and study. Get used to the way the questions are asked ( just as important as the actual questions)

I did not have a 4.0 but I scored high on the Hesi- and I only applied once and got in. :) Good Luck!

Thank you! I'm really excited that I got in! I have a 4.0GPA, but I know people who applied with me && had a 4.0 that did not get accepted into the program. Yes, I was accepted my 1st time applying. I graduated high school in 2008. As for taking classes at another campus, I never had to. Just go into the Academic Office and see an advisor at the Flint campus and they can register you for classes at another campus.

KIM2010: We got our letters in the mail the beginning of November! We were just registered for our first semester of classes the other day. I'm going up to the college tomorrow to pick up my books. I'm glad that you replied because now I have a nursing student at Baker that I can ask a question... lol... Are we suppose to wear our uniforms to the orientation? Do you have any tips or pointers? How are the Nurses we get paired with at Clinicals? I've been reading a lot on here about Clinical Instructors being really mean to the students...

destiny4nursing: It's a combination of things. GPA, HESI score, Points (Have you transfered any credits into Baker? Have you withdrew from a class?).

I had someone call my house from Baker && leave a message saying that out of everyone who applied for Winter semester, I was the only person that had a 4.0 and has never missed a class. Maybe they look at your attendance too, I'm not sure... It's not in the list of things that getting in is based on, but maybe they do look at it.

No you dont wear your whites to orientation.

The only tip I have for you is to work hard, read your books and then go back and read them again. :) Its a hard program and most weeks you WILL spend 40+ hours a week studying/writing papers/careplans- no joke. Its a lot of work, but it is worth it and you CAN get through it.

They break the group into half for classes, so you will only really get to know half of the group the first semester. They will change this up every semester. Then for Clinicals you are broken up into 5 or 6 groups. Prob. 8 students per clinical instructor. ( these will meet at varying times/locations. Some will be at one hospital and others at a different one, some will be on 6th floor, some on 7th, some on 8... etc.) You dont really follow your nurse too much, you will have your own stuff your doing like learning assessment and patient care.

I will say that some of the nurses can unfriendly, but the majority are wonderful. I found that fundamentals was the worse for unfriendly nurses, but since then the nurses have been much much better. Much more willing to help, answer questions, try new things, and let you pick their brain. :)

On the lighter side, you are going to sit next to complete strangers at orientation and they will tell you these people are your new family and will be your best friends... and its is 100% true. They are the people who will hug you when your down, kick you in the butt when you need it, and stand proudly by your side everyday. :heartbeat

kim2010: thank you for the tip! i've already been working hard and reading and rereading things (i have to read chapters at least twice for everything to stick anyways. the first time i read a chapter, only certain things stick.)

what hospitals have you been at for clinicals? did you end up getting sent to a hospital far from where you live? what has been your favorite clinical rotation so far?

i'm glad that the majority of the nurses are wonderful! i've read horror stories on here about clinical instructors and the nurses on the floors being rude and degrading to nursing students.

it's awesome to hear that you become really close with the other nursing students! none of my friends were accepted with me, so i was nervous about who was going to be my support system throughout the program. i'm not nervous anymore though, thank you! i'm glad that you become friends and like family with the people that you're with.

do you have a myspace or facebook, or an e-mail that i could e-mail you at if i have any questions? it'd be nice to get to know someone that is already in the program.
