Can I challenge the CNA exam in TN?

Published

Hello, I am new to this website, but I am almost hooked now. I am curious if I can challenge the CNA certification exam in TN. Does anyone know the answer to this? Also, can it be done in GA?

Thank you so much!

My understanding is that in TN you can not challenge it, you MUST attend a class in order to be certified. I wanted to do the same thing.

There is "supposed" to be a an online CNA class starting in the summer, it's through TN board of regents online program. http://www.rodp.org/ttc/degrees/cna.htm

You just show up for the labs and clinicals. That might be more feasible, if I hadn't gotten laid off in November I would have had to wait to do it online.

If you've already been trained (maybe by your employer or the like) and worked as a CNA, you can challenge the CNA State License Exam.

There are, of course, certain requirements in order to challenge the test.

If you click this link- http://www.hdmaster.com/testing/cnatesting/tennessee/TN_CNA_Home.htm

On the right hand side of your screen you will see a blue box with white letters that says "Candidate Forms". The 6th box down is called "Challenge Information". Click that and it will give you all the forms and information you need in order to challenge the test.

If you choose to challenge, let me know how it goes! I'm interested in doing the same thing.. I'm just wondering how difficult it is to challenge.

Also, if you haven't already worked as a CNA I'd definitely check out the online class through the Tennessee Board of Regents (http://www.rodp.org/ttc/degrees/cna.htm) as dee78 suggested. It seems much easier to take a State Board approved course and get licensed than it is to learn from another source and have to challenge the state license test.

Good luck!!

P.s. I don't know about Georgia (but I'm considering moving there so I am curious) but in Tennessee, there are some places where you can work with only the CNA certification (or enough on-the-job experience) that do NOT require the state license. Just an fyi. :wink2:
