Can I become a Canadian nurse with bad math?

Published

Im a 16 year old Canadian student and I like chemistry and biology a lot. However, I don't like math. Back in freshmen year, my whole life was video games and so all my marks suffered. Knowing this in gr.8, I took applied math and the rest were academic. I passed all my courses but they were all like under 60% (60% in math, 56% in science). In grade 10, I still took applied math and my average was about 70% (60% in applied math and 62% in academic science).

In grade 11 (current), I told myself I would stop and focus more on school. As you could tell, I definetly shouldn't persue math or science because of my poor grades but I wanted a change. I got an 82% in chemistry and 80% in college math. I have biology this semester and I'm hoping for atleast an 85%. My other grades such as English, is 80% and my French is 85%.

These are not bad grades but I took college math.. I did some research and like 28/30 university REQUIRES grade 12 university math.. I'm screwed. It'll take me a long time to work my ass back up to university math and I don't think thats ganna happen. I can take grade 12 college math as well. I heard there isnt even a lot of hard math in nursing just basic calculations.

What do you guys think? Should I ask the uni's permission or something? Do you think I have a chance of getting into nursing with college math? Am I screwed? Will they have like a program for students like me?

Thanks

You will definitely have to take the u level math to get into university. Find out what you have to do to take it next year.

I think you will have to take whatever the university requires. I doubt they will make an exception for you if it is a required class. Also, keep in mind, although drug calculations in nursing may seem basic, nursing school is challenging and requires lots of studying and commitment. With that being said, you have to have that same level of commitment when dealing with prerequisites (such as math). Just go ahead and prove to yourself that you can succeed in university level math. Just work hard.
