Calling in treats for unit when home sick?

Published

I just got back from a 5-day camping trip last week, worked two days, and then came down with one of the worst colds of my life! I had to call in sick yesterday and today, and each day my supervisors sent out desperate sounding emails asking if any RNs would come in to help out.

I don't call in sick often at all, but our census is high and my supervisor has done a really great job balancing the schedule so that we all got the days off we requested. so now I feel bad, and even though there really is no way I could work in the ICU in my current condition, I feel guilty for calling in. Especially because on Thurs I leave for another trip, and this sickness will probably just have gotten better for it.

I I was thinking of calling a bakery to deliver fresh baked cookies for my coworkers this afternoon with a note about how grateful I am to have coworkers who help cover each other like they did for me today and yesterday. I want them to know I appreciate them. I feel bad about having to call in despite being legit sick.

Ya'll are on some crazy ****. Do you hear yourselves? People would not believe she was actually sick if she was well enough to order snacks?

OP. The unit I work on would have been like "OMG WE LOVE HER". Maybe we're just a select and rare species of food driven nurses.

Also, doesn't matter if anyone believes you or not. They're your PTO days and you can use em how you feel like.

No... but in all honestly. I would be both thrilled and blessed if half the nurses I worked with would just NOT come to work and order the rest of us a pizza instead. At least I could spend my 12 hours with something useful.

Clearly not everyone will see this as bad, however I'd venture to say that the majority will not see it in a positive light based on the opinions on this thread. Now tell us about the food driven comment, I just suddenly remembered my Yorkie sitting as I command "sit!" as he waits for his snack LOL!!! I hope that's not what you mean. :D

Haha! Yes! All our dogs wait (im)patiently by my 1 year old son as he eats in high chair, hoping to get any morsel of food he may drop. And I'm surprised you have a Yorkie. :p

LOL!! I have two, those dogs are just plain nuts, so interactive, my 1 year old will constantly challenge me to tug a war and won't even let me watch tv! When I ignore him he goes after the other one and annoys the crap out of her to the point where I have to break it up!!! They are part of the family LOL!
