I currently work in Labor and Delivery. Just recently our Manager has made the unit take Mandatory 12 Hour shift calls every two weeks. Is this legal with this much call?

It depends on what state you are in. Some states have laws against mandatory OT most don't. Also it depends on how call is treated, some states may treat call the same as regular OT while others don't. If your facility is unionized read your contract as it would be spelled out there.
Is the call extra or is it in place of your regular work schedule? Is it because of a hiring freeze, increased census, or inadequate staffing? I assume you will also be paid to be on call and receive higher compensation if called in. In the economy take every advantage to earn extra $$$.

We've always had call on our L&D unit. At my first job we have to take 24 hour call in a 4 week period (all at once) plus can take other nurse's call if we'd like. At my other job I have to take 8 hours call in a 4 week period and that can be spit up in 4 hour increments or be taken at one time.
