Challenging CA BRN Deficiency

U.S.A. California

Published

After having my application evaluated by the BRN, I was notified that my application was deficient of a physiology course. Turns out my school failed to include physiology in my transcripts. While the official course titles are listed as Human Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab and Human Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab, the official transcripts listed the courses as Human Anat I and Human Anat II. This error not only delays my application to take the NCLEX but ultimately does not give me credit for the actual courses that I have taken.

In efforts to challenge the deficiency, I have submitted the syllabi for both courses as additional documents via Breeze portal. I have spoken over the phone with 3 associates at the BRN whom were unable to provide me with steps to take in order to resolve the issue. I have contacted my school to ask for a transcript correction but was told that they "weren't able to do anything as the transcripts are official documents".

Does anyone know of anyone who has gone through the same issue?

Ultimately, I think that you're going to have to get the transcript issue taken care of. As for what you were told by "your school," this doesn't make sense. Regardless of the fact that the transcript is an "official document" there should be a mechanism to correct it as it should also accurately reflect your coursework and degree.

Thank you for your input. I plan on speaking with the chancellor about the issue.

As someone who deals with the BRN on a regular basis I can tell you that this is an issue with YOUR school - staff at regulatory agencies are under strict guidelines to only accept courses as written and must write full course names on transcripts. Unfortunately, syallabi are. Or considered official and can be forged so the best bet is to have your official transcript resubmitted. Most registrars can submit a memo attached that can clarify these issues.

Thank you for this. I will emphasize that the FULL course name should be written on the official transcript.

UPDATE:

Spoke to the school and was told again that they are unable to edit/correct the course title on the transcript. However, the registrar will be sending a letter to the BRN providing verification that I did take the physiology courses. I hope this will be sufficient.

I hope you got your problem resolved. I had to do that same thing for a psychology course. Once my school emailed a licensing supervisor (the email was provided to me by a BRN staff when I was there in person) my license was posted almost immediately. Good luck!

Problem resolved! I had submitted course syllabi, course catalogue, and had the school registrar send a letter to the board explaining the issue with the course title (school is unable to correct the transcript). Thank you all for your responses!!!
