Hello everyone, I'm new here to the nursing community.
I am currently a nursing student at a community college with the goal of eventually reaching an RN BSN, and would appreciate any insight, answers, or conversation about nursing programs. I am almost done with my prereqs to apply for ADN programs and have some questions. I live in California, and unfortunately as many of you know the nursing programs here are heavily impacted. I really want to get my ADN first then do ADN to BSN route as it saves money and can help me build experience. My only worry, however is how long it will take me to get into an ADN program especially in california in the first place. I would like to ask if anyone knows what community colleges I should apply to (anywhere in California, though I live in northern cal)and may have the chance of getting in to as well any additional classes I may need for certain programs. Based off of the american river college class requirements, Overall I have mostly A's and a few B's. I currently have an A in anatomy and physiology (Bio 431), a B in anatomy and Physiology (Bio 432), have not yet taken microbiology, but aim for an A, have an A in English Writing, an A in Nutrition, and a B in Pyschology. I am taking Anthropology next semester as well. Please let me know if their are any other community colleges that require similar classes, I currently plan on applying to American River college, Sac city, Sierra so far, but plan to apply to more as I know that the more I apply the better chances. I know that applying to BSN programs is also a possibility, but I will likely have to apply out of state because my overall gpa is only about a 3.2-3.3 and its expensive anyways. However, I wonder if applying to rn to bsn programs are still really competive? And also does taking rn to bsn online look bad for employers? I know getting your rn license at a well accredited schools is very important. I'm stressed out and worried I won't get into any nursing programs as I am not a 4.0 student. So I could really use some good advice, or reassurance from anyone in a similar spot.
Thanks,
Ashley

Hello-
Hope I can help you out with some thoughts, I am an older student and I don't have the best gpa as my past grades (i had a rough start) are still included into my cumulative gpa. Some advice I can give you is first look at the ADN programs that you are interested in and look at their requirements. Most ADN programs have a minimum gpa for overall and the sciences. If they run on a point system look at what they give as points and see where you fall in their point system chart, any additional points will just put you in a better position when you apply to a program. I have been using this site to see previous posts of schools I am interested in and look at the cut off points students are admitted with so then I can get a general idea of where I have a better chance of getting admitted. You have to remember that you also have to take your TEAS test and the better the score the better the points as well. If you have schools that have a lottery system that can help you too as long as you meet the requirements you have a chance. Out of state is a good option but maybe look into BSN programs since you would still have to pay out of state tuition if you do an ADN program (just my opinion). One more thing is that talking to friends that I know are nurses, they didn't have a problem with employment when they got their BSN online. Hope this helps you somewhat.

dont be nervous just study for your teas exam and apply. Just like you i live in the bay area and all i heard was how impacted it was. The first school i applied to i didn't get in and went on to the csueb to finish some upper level classes. I applied to ccsf and got right into their nursing program. I had A's, B's and i believe a C in one class. Just apply to all the schools you can. I even have class mates that drive all the way from Sac. just try to get in where ever you can. I am now going into my last semester of nursing school. good luck
