California Nursing license

Published

Hi everyone,

I have a question to ask and I am hoping to get a helpful response.

I am a foreign trained RN. I am in USA now. I started my RN license registration in California in February 2017. My country was slow in processing my documents such as proof of nursing education and evidence of nursing practice whiles I was in my country. My nursing school transcript was sent in April, the evidence of license and practice in my country was sent in August and finally, my logbook and clinical evidence was sent to California board of nursing in October, 2017.

The California board of nursing is currently working on documents received from September 1-15 right now. I don't know where I stand right now with the processing time? Am I going to be given a priority since everything expires in February 2018? The board is yet to update me on my status especially with my interim license. They don't reply to my emails. They don't answer phone calls too. I'm getting frustrated since my job in a warehouse now is draining me. Also, is there a place in a hospital I can work whiles waiting on the license? Thanks.

In my experience, they take months to process your application. The timing seems to start from the last document that they receive.

I have gotten through calling their phone number occasionally (doesn't always work), though the answers are quite basic on whether all my documents have been received or not. So if it has lapsed over 8-12 weeks since you sent in your application, I would try calling them to see if they are missing anything.

Goodluck on your application.

Thank you. I was able to get through the process. Awaiting Nclex results now
