Join the California Association for Nurse Practitioners in garnering support for SB 491 (Hernandez), if passed, this is a substantial piece of legislation that would make our state part of the progressive group of states that allow for full practice rights to NP's without physician involvement.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread in light of the introduction of SB 323 by the same Sen Hernandez (D-West Covina) that would once again attempt to legislate independent practice for NP's in California (the only state in the West Coast that still requires written collaboration protocols with physicians). The language hasn't been released yet but it would be similar to the failed SB491 introduced in 2013. Watch for updates especially from CANP.

Again, urging NP's in California to be aware and support efforts to push SB 323 forward. Word is that there is bipartisan support for this bill that it's predecessor bill in 2013 didn't have. There is a bigger scope of supporters of the bill, including large and influential California entities (University of California, Stanford Health Care, California Hospital Association to name a few).
