California LVN with a bad GPA. Is it possible ever become an RN in the Bay Area?

Published

Hi! I'm an LVN of just over two years, and really want to be an RN. The issue is, my GPA is horrible (2.7) and I had to repeat Microbiology twice :( and now I feel theres no hope to get into an LVN-to-RN or any other path to RN in the Bay Area.

My two years of undergraduate classes were all done 2009-2012, and my LVN nursing school GPA is 3.5 (Carrington College in San Jose in 2015), and excellent working experience as an LVN, none of this seems to matter to RN programs. I used to be a horrible student, and unfortunantly really minced my transcript, before realising I needed to get my stuff together (and did!) but I'm worried that it was all for nothing if I can't get to an RN. Has anyone been in my shoes? Anyone know of schools out there that don't mind repeated science courses or that will look at the transcript as a whole, noticing that I literally turned my life around several years ago?

Hey! I was in the same boat as you. It delayed me from even attempting to apply to nursing schools for several years. I partied a lot in college and didn't get serious about my education until years later. I have a horrible overall GPA of 2.01 w/ 150+ hours. I will start an LPN to RN bridge program Jan' 18 at Western Kentucky University. I was accepted because they only look at courses required for the program. A&P i and ii, Micro, Developmental psych etc. I also got a 90% on my HESI.

You have two options.

1. Look for a program that only looks at courses required for their program.

2. Look into Academic fresh start. It's were schools will void all your previous college work. It's like starting all over.

Why don't you try Carrington's LVN-RN bridge?

Yes, try some private colleges such as Unitek, Carrington.
