California after graduation

Published

Hello Everyone!

I'm considering moving to California after graduating from nursing school.Any advice?

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

Do you have connections there that can help you land a job? Ability to live with out a job for a while if need be? I'm not in California but reading these forums it seems like new grads have a difficult time finding work and it is better to make the move after having a couple years of experience.

Don't move to California as a new grad.

California is the single most impacted state in the US. Do a Google search for new grad unemployment rates 18 months after graduation (it's between 40% and 50% depending on the source).

You could read for days if you search for California new grad jobs here on All Nurses.

Your best bet is to get two years experience elsewhere and then try to transfer over to California.

People are getting new grad jobs, but you're looking at a statistically small chance of landing one of those, and probably lower with an out of state degree.

Don't discount ALL of California - If you want to move to a small rural town and be a "rural nurse" learning a bit about everything then we could use you.
