Hello fellow nurses,
I just want to share my experience with CABRN and hoping that some of you may shed some light to my questions. I graduated in Nursing BSN from Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City, Philippines. I applied for NCLEX and had my transcripts evaluated by CABRN. I received a letter from them stating "The California Board of Registered Nursing has completed the review of your application and supporting documents. The Board has determined that the program you completed is not equivalent to the requirements for licensure set forth in the Business and professions Code (B&P) Section 2736(b) viewable on the Boards website. In accordance with the Nursing Practice Act (NPA), the Board determines by regulation the required subjects of instruction to be completed in an approved school of nursing for licensure as a registered nurse" My impression about this message is that the school I attended and it's nursing program is not an approved school of nursing. What I don't get is why when I have friends and people I know that went to the same school and even graduated the same batch as me and they didn't get the same response as I did. Some of them just needed to redo MS and OB and I know someone who is actually practicing nursing here in Carson, CA as a registered nurse in Harbor UCLA Medical Center and she also graduated from the same school I went to. I tried to get a hold of the evaluator so I can ask her the reason or even have my application reevaluated but I still can't get a hold of her. I was wondering should I hire a lawyer to appeal to CABRN? If I do what kind of lawyer should I get. I also had my transcripts evaluated by World Evaluation Services so I can try to apply my credits from the philippines to a community school here. I really don't want to restart from scratch again so fellow nurses any advice is appreciated.

Is there an appeal process? And did they list specific courses for you to repeat? Is the nursing school going through any accreditation or other problems right now?
Hi Nurse Beth,
Thank you for your comment, no they didn't mention any appeal or any subject that I need to take they stated that I need to enroll at a nursing program in an accredited nursing school. I don't believe there is any problem with the school I went to, I read here in this community that it depend sometimes on the evaluator on how they will evaluate the application.

Hi RN322014,
I also got the same letter from CA BRN. "The California Board of Registered Nursing has completed the review of your application and supporting documents. The Board has determined that the program you completed is not equivalent to the requirements for licensure set forth in the Business and professions Code (B&P) Section 2736(b) viewable on the Boards website. In accordance with the Nursing Practice Act (NPA), the Board determines by regulation the required subjects of instruction to be completed in an approved school of nursing for licensure as a registered nurse" Can you guide me what you did to get the license in CA. Can I try some other state.
