Attn LVNs or RNs with past LVN license:
I am wondering if anyone has been able to get their RN license while on an LVN probation?
Let me start by saying I made some mistakes. I got my CA LVN license with a past DUI conviction from February 2012. After becoming licensed, I was charged with a misdemeanor drug possession in June 2014. Both of these charges are now dismissed and expunged, however the CA LVN Board (BVNPT) has just now put me on a 3 year probation which will continue to March 2019.
I am currently attending an RN program and will graduate in May 2017. At that point I will still have almost 2 years left on the LVN probation. I know I can request to have the probation terminated early at the 2 year mark, but my probation monitor herself discouraged me from this since it will take almost a year to obtain the decision if I can even get a spot to be heard at one of the board meetings (only held 4 times/year). She also said that the BRN will communicate with her directly which seems helpful if I show good progress, but the bottom line is I can't see the BRN giving me a license or even considering me while I am on probation for another CA license. Even worse, it is possible that I waste 3 years on the LVN probation just to be given another 3 years probation from the BRN and likely no job. I am lucky I was able to keep my current LVN job...
My question is if anyone has attempted to progress from the LVN probation to get an RN license?
I know that there is a new bill AB 2396 in California that just went into effect, requiring most licensing boards not to use expunged convictions to deny a license. I was hoping that this may be changing things for anyone being licensed recently, however it seems like the Board can still consider the behavior leading to the convictions as grounds for denial.
Has AB 2396 helped anyone get an RN license?
