2017 CA BRN timeline w/ old DUI

Published

I read so many articles trying to understand what would happen after I submitted my application to the BRN with a conviction and I couldn't find a solid thread so I'm posting my own. (My conviction is a DUI/Wet reckless from 2008)

Here is my timeline:

Collected court documents, letters of character, and wrote my own letter of explanation.

November 4th - submitted online application to the BRN, including the above documents.

(Couldn't upload all of them, so I also mailed the packet to the BRN that same day)

December 31st - graduated from nursing school.

January 3rd (postmarked) - received the BRN letter than my application had a conviction and that it would take longer to review.

January 13th (postmarked) - received the BRN letter than they would not take disciplinary action against my application.

January 24th - I received my ATT via PearsonVue and scheduled my NCLEX.

I hope this posting helps you have a better understanding of the timeline (at least from a December graduate), not sure how fast the BRN is with June graduates.

Was your conviction expunged?

Sorry for the delay.

No, it was not expunged.

Was your conviction expunged?

Wouldn't matter if it was: OP still has to report expunged convictions to the BRN.

Unfortunately, the wheels of the BRN turn slow. And considering how slowly they turn for straightforward applicants, it's far far worse for applicants with a criminal history.

You seem to be on top of things, which is good. And you got word they won't take action against your application (though IMO, nothing is guaranteed until you have your license number in hand) and you received your ATT...very promising signs. Things should turn out all right for you.

Best of luck on the test!

Thanks! Scheduled & passed the NCLEX by Feb 15.

Congrats Foodie I'm in a very similar situation I have all my paper work ready I just need to write my letter of explanation. Can you offer any advice? Thank you!

Hello! I have a question for you. It looks like you were able to get a jumpstart and send in all your stuff prior to graduation on the 31 of December! That's awesome. Can you provide some more information as to how early one can submit?

Thanks in advance and congrats!!
