I am an internationally trained nurse from the Philippines and I applied for the NCLEX-RN in the State of California.
I received feedback from the CA Board that I have a deficiency in Psychiatric Nursing because I was not able to complete direct patient care hours due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were not allowed to have our clinical rotations.
What are my options? Does/Did anyone else have this challenge?
I called the BRN and they didn't allow me to do it in the Philippines, they want me to take it up here.

I checked a community college here in LA and they are offering Psych Nursing through online which my Analyst (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST IDENTIFYING INFO ABOUT OTHERS) said I am deficient in Psych Nursing because I did it online (which is not my fault that it's Pandemic) On top of that my classmate who I took Psych Nursing through online in the Philippines for 4 years got approved, passed NCLEX here in Cali (we have the same analyst) and now she's working as an RN with $48/hr rate somewhere in San Diego. Life is unfair. Told my analyst I will sue him but he doesn't care at all.

Similar situation too! I have classmates from the same school who have their CA license already even though we went through the same program at the same time (aka COVID). I don't understand why. But it just proves that my school in PH does meet the CA BRN requirements because my other classmates got approved. Were you able to get Board approval to go back to school in the PH?

They are telling you specifically to contact the board. That's who you need to contact. Since they are not responding you need to contact them again. Nobody said you would get an answer back right away, they have thousands of people contact him on a daily basis so it will take time.

They probably have something on their transcripts that you don't have that allowed your classmate to meet the qualifications that you and they are unaware about.

I already emailed my analyst regarding it and he clearly stated I needed to retake classes for Psychiatric Nursing simply because I took it online and so as my classmate. I have all the screenshots of convo I had with my analyst that is why I'm planning to sue him.

hi! I don't think they will allow us to go back to Ph to retake classes. Obviously there is corruption or it's all about money involved. I heard they get percentage when we enroll in a school every time we handed them our CA-BRN deficiency letter. Obviously they don't follow standards over here because I clearly asked my Analyst and said I have deficiency bc I took it online. But how about this classmates of ours? meh.

You definitely received misinformation. The BRN is a separate entity and does not receive kick backs from schools. Just because things don't go your way does not mean there is corruption. The BRN has strict guidelines about licensing nurses and not all international schools will be accepted. They do things on a case by case basis. One year they may accept an international school and the next year they may not. I know because I've seen it happen to friends. People need to be careful if they want to get licensed n CA and choose their schools wisely.

Also, don't be a blood-sucking here, California Board of Nursing is not here and by doing this will not gain YOU any favors from them. Get over it.
did your classmate and you go to the same school internationally and graduated at the same exact time? Did you take the same online course from the same school at the same exact time? That is something you need to look into. Don't get upset at me because you're deficient in an area, I don't make the rules, I just follow them. Look for a refresher course with clinicals in mental health and approach the BRN with that option and see if it would fly before you enroll. . You have other options, get licensed in another state and if you're a U.S. citizen you can work in a federal facility with any license. You don't need a CA license for that. This way you're at least working while you work on getting licensed in CA. I heard people go through Vermont to obtain initial licensure and then go from there.

YES. WE HAVE THE SAME GRADUATION DATE.
MY CLASSMATE AND I WENT TO THE SAME SCHOOL IN THE PHILIPPINES. SHE WAS MY CLASSMATE FOR 3 YEARS. WE TOOK ALL THOSE ONLINE CLASSES, THE REQUIREMENTS FROM OUR SCHOOL THAT WE SUBMITTED TO CABRN ARE IDENTICAL. IF YOU NEVER GOT INTO THE SCHOOL IN THE PHILIPPINES, YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. IT'S NOT LIKE THE COLLEGE HERE IN US THAT YOU PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT IS CONVENIENT TO YOU. WE ARE BLOCK SECTION THERE. WHATEVER SHE HAS, I HAVE. EVEN BREAK TIME, WERE THE SAME. SO YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS.
