Buy nursing shoes for nursing school clinicals?

Hey guys!

I'm starting nursing school next year and I have a question for all of you...

For our clinicals I have to have an all-white shoe with a closed toe and heel. I've done some looking and haven't really found anything I like all that much (as far as nursing shoes) and the price is so steep especially with all the other things I have to buy for school. Should I really invest the $150-$200 in shoes I don't like just for clinicals?

I was thinking I would just buy some cheap white tennis shoes from walmart or something for school then when I graduate I can get some more expensive shoes that I really like (that don't have to be all white ;)). Our clinicals are only 6s or 8s anyway so that shouldn't be too bad, right? I really want to be comfy but it is worth it right now?

TIA for any input!

Sorry for posting again, but I wanted to try to make my question more clear. I was searching more for any other threads about wearing nursing shoes for clinicals, but most people are asking for suggestions of what type of shoes to buy.

I am asking whether or not I should buy shoes or not?

If yes, I can find plenty of threads on which ones to buy, but I'm more curious whether or not you think I need special (expensive) shoes for NS clinicals.

Thanks again!

I'd buy shoes you're going to be comfortable in, because "just 6's or 8's" will absolutely kill you if your feet hurt. You'll be ready to cry by the 3rd hour on your feet. Try a pair of white tennis shoes out on a weekend excursion with a lot of walking.. you know, those days when you go sightseeing and don't sit down for the majority of the day. That will tell you whether they'll be good for clinicals or not. :)

I wouldn't invest $200 bucks in a pair of shoes for nursing school. I also must wear all white closed toes/heels. THroughout nursing school, I wore a really uncomfortable pair of croc looking shoes. Now, I'm in my preceptorship, and I'm going today to buy an all white pair of nikes or NB from the store. Get shoes that are comfortable and that won't do damage to your piggies, however...you don't have to spend $200 to find them.

I bought a pair of $50.00 K-Swiss's that are all white, and had my first 8 hours day of clinicals this past saturday. My feet and legs were KILLING me! I'm going this week to get some of those gel inserts before I go back to clinicals.

I wish I had spent a little more for a better pair of shoes.
