bsn vs assoc. degree in nursing

Published

Hello

several yrs ago, i took four semesters at local private nursing school but due to finances i had to quit, couldnt afford more student loans. I want to go back and finish my degree but my problem is finances. I am unemployed, and already have a degree in another field.

I am considering two yr degree vs a bsn due to finances, any ideas on subject?

Can people still get jobs with ADN?

Also i was interested in scholarships, but i hear scholarships are only for people without a degree. Is that true? Thank you.

You will need to research the job market specific to your area. In some areas, there are far more new grads than there are positions, or even nurses with experience. Those areas see many facilities filtering applicants with a requirement or strong preference for a BSN. In other areas, there is a need for any licensed body, and those with an ADN won't have as much of a struggle to find a position. It's not universal, so know your area. Look at the job postings and see what is required and what is preferred.

Do you already have an bachelor's degree? If so, you may want to look into an accelerated program for nursing? If not look in to the community colleges, and google federal student aid there site can assist you in locating scholarships. Best of luck to you.
