BSN Admission to Linfield

Published

Hey all! I'm currently applying to nursing school at Linfield. I'm putting all my eggs in the Linfield basket because I'm not sure what other programs are available in the Portland, OR area (aside from OHSU because I know it is SO competitive and I'm not as qualified as the other candidates).

My cumulative GPA is 3.66, I have experience working as a CNA for a year, took Health Careers in high school, have countless volunteering experiences, tutored special ed students for two years and not only have completed all my prerequisites but also the co-requisites and general education classes that only Linfield requires. I feel like I am qualified for this program but after reading a lot of posts on hear I am feeling a bit discouraged :( I would appreciate any honest opinions and helpful recommendations for you guys! Thank you!

Try to keep your spirits up. You can combat a less than perfect academic standing with a better than average personal statement and interview. And yes, it is a fact that institutions receive a lot of applications are placed each year, but a large portion of those don't meet the qualifications or meet them at a minimum level. I've listened to other students with just A&P and Math 95 complete talk about applying this cycle, despite the fact that realistically the way OCNE points are distributed, they lose a ton by not having all 45 prereqs or microbio or the requirements for other discretionary points met. By having your pre-reqs and co-reqs complete, you've given yourself better footing when being considered for acceptance. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your response! It's great to get some more insight from other nurses with more advanced experience. You definitely made me feel more confident :)

I'm actually in the same boat you are, applying to programs.

I'd also put an app in for OHSU. It's $45 and some time via NursingCAS (not sure if Linfield also uses the NursingCAS, if so you already got it done anyways) -- you might be accepted because of the factors unrelated to GPA like your healthcare experience and volunteer hours.
