What skills, knowledge and coping mechanisms would you brush up on if you were on sick leave for such a significant amount of time
that you feel the need to review before returning to work in longterm care, geriatrics and a small acute care unit, which is really a SNF unit. Thank you for any support and/or insights.
My thread is not worthy? Am I not worthy? Won't someone answer my plea?

I would do math problems while on a treadmill. Ok, seriously, your most common problems will be dementia, ortho, strokes, Parkinson's. Familiarize yourself with standard med times (BP meds am, Coumadin/cholesterol meds at hs), get comfortable with injections again, remember which drugs are narcotics, which patches are daily/24/72 hr and look at standard lab ranges. Most important, plan how you will prepare for your shift (cardio, water, vegetables and no carbs is mine) and how you will decompress after (tv/reading for me instead of booze!) Make sure you have your big plastic smile on for the family members and abusive patients and backstabbing c.f. coworkers who will drive you right back to what made you sick in the first place.
That was a most gracious and helpful reply,it gives me things to work on, you really nailed the toxic personalities we have endure. Thanks Lioness.
I endure the toxic personalities like this: "Oh...someone called in? You need help? Who will I be working with? Whoops...sorry...can't help her out." Click.
