Broward College August 2010 Conditional Acceptance?

Published

:DI am wondering if anyone has ever heard of BC giving a conditional acceptance? I have e-mailed the Associate Dean of Nursing at the North campus, and have yet to hear back from her, which leads me to believe she may be looking into this matter.

I have a 4.0 in all pre-requisite classes and am this semester taking Microbiology and lab and A&P II and lab, which is my last pre-req. I know BC has had many issues about the August class, and am figuring if they are really hurting for applicants, perhaps they'll take me this semester.

If that's not going to work, has anyone applied REALLY close to the deadline, or start of classes? BC has very recently changed their application deadline to....open-ended. My summer classes will end August 7, and I believe the August nursing class begins something like the 23rd. Is that way too close to apply, now that there's an open-ended deadline? I don't have any of my CEU/BLS courses done- I know I can do them all online minus BLS, but where can I take that at such short notice?

And on a completely separate note, anyone know of a very good daycare center that opens early/takes babies 9 months old? That's ANOTHER thing I'll need to figure out, BUT, I'm determined:)

I know, but they won't take babies unless they're at least 15 months, or at least that's what their website says. :(

since its open ended i would try , BUT do you have time to study for the HESI??? I know they say it doesnt count but i wouldnt count on that. If you think you canget a decent score on the HESI i say go for it.

BC is one of the few schools that your classes must be done before you can turn in your application. I would ask admissions exactly what open-ended means. My opinion is that they changed it so the deadline would close sooner then July 2 so people could have time to get everything done. Good Luck!! Just ask admissions you never know what they could say!!

I have no idea if this is helpful or not. But when I was applying to the LPN/RN transition program last year, I was worried that I might have to take A&P 1 over, since I did it in the military. And I wasn't sure I'd be done with the class, in time to get my application submitted.

I ended up getting a waiver, but before it went through, I spoke to an advisor about it. And she told me not to worry, because the application deadline was "open-ended". When I asked what that was, I was told that it meant we could submit our applications anytime before the class started. So maybe your situation is something similar, in that they are dragging it out, in order to get more applicants.

Oh wow, Honeybee.....I remember that whole ordeal! Has it really been that long??

Alison- North campus has a daycare right across from the nursing bldg (right next to the library). Not sure what ages they take and what time they open, but they're there!

This whole open-ended thing is pretty new- for the generic option (not so new for the LPN transition), so as long as they haven't filled all of the spaces, when you have everything done, you can turn in your application. It can't hurt.

You can look into taking the CPR class at some of the fire depts. I think you can check on the American Heart Assoc. website and look for places that offer it. I am pretty sure Margate does. I see BC has a class on Aug 7th thats not yet filled up if you want to register for that one, just in case. You can always drop it later.

Ahhh, I guess that's what I'm worried about- that the spaces would fill before I get a chance to turn in my application.

I'm signed up for CEU online classes and the CPR course at Broward on Aug 17-19. Haven't signed up for the HESI yet, but I'll take that late July so I can get through as much of my A&P II class as possibe before sending in my application, and I know it can take some time to receive results.

We shall see....

PS: Only bad thing about BC daycare is for whatever reason, and this seems really dumb to me, their daycare starts at 7 in the morning but nursing clinicals start at 630....Nursing is such a big program for them you would figure they'd think of that when they decided what time to open? Now any nursing student with a baby, it seems to be, would have to go elsewhere for daycare, at least on clinical days...

alisonelizabeth,

have you put your name on the waiting list yet at the day care center? I know for summer they normally have open spots b/c parents pull their kids out since their not taking classes, but I know I was on the waiting list for 6mths before I was able to get my 2 and 4 year old in. Look into just in case you r able to get into the nursing program for fall!

I'll definitely see about the waiting list and try getting him put on it, although it really sucks that clinicals start earlier than the daycare opens....you said you put your children in daycare, but how did that work with clinicals for you??

I haven't started nursing yet (hopefully this August) but my husband is going to be dropping the kids off to school in the morning. I know I wanted to go to North campus so bad, but i couldn't ask to take on kid down the street to kindergarten and the other to coral springs (we live in plantation, north is too far) But, I heard cinicals are only once a week for 4 weeks or twice a week for 2 weeks (every 8 weeks of their mini-semester) So at least its not every day!!!

My husband will be in the program with me, so it'll be my parents dropping our son off. Same situation, I wanted to go North soooo bad, but looked like we're both stuck at Central! Ha maybe if for some miraculous reason my husband and I DO get in for August, we'll see you in the program:)
