bronchial stents

A good friend of mine had one due to cancer issues. She didn't want it in the first place, but it was put in emergently after a cardiac arrest. She said that it annoyed her and that she could feel it. I'm not so sure, she was at a point in her illness where she had chronic airway and secretion problems.

I used to assist in cardiac and peripheral stents and truely beleive that they are wonderful lifesaving devices. I have yet to met a patient that can feel their stent.

Thank you CCL"Babe" for your response. I spoke in detail with both pulmonary doctors on Thursday who both agreed they thought she should not have this procedure. They told me it was a minor outpatient procedure but because her whole left stem is just about closed a stent would do her no good unless they put stents down the entire bronchial stem which they didn't recommend. They also expressed that to our surgeons in Tx who wanted us to look into this prior to her spinal surgery. So I'm going for that decision they know my child the best and her been her pulmonary docs since she was 8 weeks old.

Learn something new every day. I know that getting off a vent is hard and I know that first hand. Not pleasant at all.

Thank you renerian. I hope she does well also. I'm trying to be optimistic. She is a tough kid who has been through a great deal in her four years of life. Everytime something like this happens she never ceases to amaze us on how strong she is. So I can only hope this procedure will be the same. It is the first time we will see her on a vent after a procedure, normally when they bring her to us she is extabated already. This time she will need to be in the PICU for at least five days. I will keep the board posted as the surgery approaches closer and when we return home. Thank you for all of the support I have gotten from this board. The closer it gets the more nervous I get, but I guess that is normal.
