British Nurse going to NS. Canada

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and am looking for information...

Myself and family are emmigrating to Nova Scotia, Canada from Scotland. I have applied to sit the Nursing exam there, but am finding it a bit difficult to search for an appropriate job.

I am finding the job titles and qualifications required a bit difficult to understand. Do I fit the criteria for that job????

Are there any British nurses out there working in Canada who have made the transition and can give me a bit of insight. It all frightens me even though I have 20+ years of experience under my belt...

Please help....anyone?

Its the program you are required to go through if your foriegn trained. The only thing is I'm not 100% sure if British are considered foriegn here. They test you and the college determines what courses you need to take then you take them before you can sit the exam's. The course Bridge to Canadian nursing is an introduction to the Canadian health care system this is in May. It may or may not be required its usually recommended.

Thanks for the info. I managed to find some info on the last Bridge course and emailed the person responsible for it, they emailed my back and said they hadn't decided on a date yet for the next one, but will keep me posted. I spoke to an employer also who mentioned it, so it seems worthwhile going.

Will let you know when I find out any more info.

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that last week I applied to 3 different HRs with my cv, well, wonder of wonders I have received two replies already!!!!:w00t:

The first had been calling me all week and wants me to let them know when I'm coming over so she can organise a few people for me to meet. The second sent an email saying they were sending my cv to a few people who were interested, in that county and to keep in touch with my dates for going over to NS.

The 3rd I haven't heard from, but keeping my fingers crossed as that's the one I really want.

I was pretty down hearing all your replies with timescales etc..:o. but now I feel positive again.

There is hope for me yet...
