Break at the beginning of the shift

Can a supervisor/manager force the nurse the take the 30 mins lunch break at the beginning of the shift? While we still doing patient assessment, we are asked to take lunch at this time.

Where I work 12 hour Nightshift does not get a 30 minute break they come in at 7p and leave at 7a. Everyone usually eats at the desk and occasionally take mini breaks here and there. During the day when it is very busy, no one gets a full 30 min break, we usually order out and then run in and out of the breakroom taking bites as we go along. The other day, a physician I work with was in a pts room eating a banana while he was talking to the patient. So they dont get to eat either. Really now, I should be thinner!!!
