Hey guys I took TEAS exam today. I scored a 80 but I’m not sure if that holds weight. I have A 4.0 in my GPA(prereqs) and took all my pre reqs at BRCC.

Hi Celeste:) CONGRATS on the 4.0!

Hi and thank you! CONGRATS on your score also!! Sorry for the late response I'm still trying to figure out how to maneuver this thread LOL. do you know if they are looking at your overall GPA or only your prereq GPA?

It is 50 percent TEAS, 40 percent GPA, and 10 percent prereqs. I'm worried about prerequisites hurting my chances since I took all of mine at a different college.

I think they look at everything even things that not included...I wouldn't be so hung up on scores and GPA though because last year some students didn't get in and they score 87 TEAS and great gpas... so I think they tell you to do great to help them decide easier but when I took HESI back then...I had a GPA of 3.1 I believe so and there were people who had higher gpas that didn't get in. I was in the 1st class of nursing school at brcc and I think there were like over 400 applicants

ohh okay yeah I'm not too confident about my overall GPA I started off rocky when I first started college in 2012. I guess this is just a waiting game then

dang! well there is no telling for right now. just have to wait it out and see

Yeah, I have a 3.8 GPA. But I didn't do that well on TEAS... I ran out of time in the math part, I messed up really trying to take my time and I ended up with around 70. So who knows.

I'm going to pray for all... that test was hard though...most scored proficient from what I've been seeing

Amen. & yeah my test was challenging. so when it comes to GPA are they looking at the overall GPA on the transcript or the cumulative GPA?.....LOL

?‍♀️ it can be anything...for me I only have nursing classes left.

So, here is what I know and have experienced over the last year. Hopefully it helps anyone reading this now or in the future.

1. Your application GPA is calculated from the 5 pre-reqs that are required in order to apply to BRCC’s nursing program. You CAN be currently enrolled in some or all of the classes while applying—they just have to be completed by the end of the semester (essentially: make sure you pass them and don’t withdraw, otherwise your application was a waste). This also means that if you have a lower GPA based on those five classes, you can re-take some to raise your application GPA.

2. As of this writing, BRCC still maintains that 50% consideration goes to TEAS scores, 40% to application GPA, and 10% to whether or not you took those five pre-reqs at BRCC.

3. Your TEAS score is valid for three years and you *CAN* re-use your score if you don’t get in the first time and re-apply. Keep this in mind because BRCC only allows you to take the TEAS twice, so if you feel like you can’t dedicate at least a month towards studying for it, I would suggest not wasting one of your attempts and trying again when you’re in a better position to prepare for the exam.

My experience has been this:

I applied last year with an 88 TEAS score, 3.56 GPA, and 0/5 pre-req classes taken at BRCC. I didn’t get in. After speaking with admissions, it wasn’t explicitly stated that I didn’t get in because I didn’t take my pre-reqs at BRCC, but it was heavily implied and I was encouraged to “re-take some of my classes to raise my GPA.” Considering that there were people with lower GPAs and TEAS scores that got in, however, the GPA wasn’t the real issue. The only difference is that they took some or all of those five pre-req classes at BRCC.

So, for anyone that wants to go to BRCC’s nursing school, *PLEASE* keep this in mind if you have 0/5 or 1/5 of those classes taken at BRCC. That 10% may not seem like a lot, but when you’re being pitted against >400 other applicants, it makes a difference. If I knew then what I know now, I could have saved myself a lot of grief and time.

So this Spring semester I re-applied while concurrently retaking three classes at BRCC (I chose English, a Humanities Elective, and A&PI). My old English grade was a B, and my old A&PI was an A for lecture and a B for lab since my old university split the two. I made a 4.0 this semester, so currently my application is as follows:
88 TEAS
3.81 GPA
3/5 classes taken at BRCC

Effectively, I raised my application GPA and will also have 6% given towards taking some classes at BRCC.

Will I get in with these changes? I don’t know, but I am trying to remain hopeful. I’ll update when admissions letters go out in June.
