I just passed the boards the end of July. I was just hired at a Kindred facility on a long term unit for the 11-7 shift. I am just wondering as a NEW nurse what advice anyone may have. I realize this is probably not the ideal shift to start on due to lack of support, I will be the ONLY nurse once off of orientation. I have been assured that I can orient as long as I need. So any advice as to starting out would be very much appreciated.

Is it Kindred in W-B, PA?
No its in southeastern Ma.
My friend works for them in PA. She learned alot there
Thanks for the input, I started orientation today, granted it was just filling out paperwork and watching movies, they seem very supportive of the new nurses. Lets hope this is the case. I will let everyone know once I am on the floor in another few days. Meanwhile, any NIGHT shift tips would be greatly appreciated.
Keep us posted!
Just an update- Finished my first week on the floor. Started out shadowing. Then they had me on the desk to learn paperwork such as quarterly nursing summaries, admission paperwork, etc. The next day shadowed again at a cart and passed maybe 4 patients meds. then more paperwork and shadowing, I did get to do some suctioning and trach care, as well as G-tube feeding, checking placement and all that goes with that. Then suddenly today, bam- got the keys, got do do count, meds responsible for the narcs, the g-tube, the trach, the whole hallway with 21 patients. Had a very productive day and really started to feel like a nurse. So far, the nurses at this facility have been very receptive and willing to teach. I start on my 11-7 schedule on Monday as they make everyone do a week of day orientation. So far so good
