Brand new LPN/ Brand new job

Published

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

I am about to start my very first job as an LPN in LTC.:nurse: I am still working on my RN co-reqs, hope to be finished this summer and move forward with an LPN-BSN program.

But in the meantime I am more than excited and nervous to begin working. :uhoh3:

I will be floating actually from first and second shift which that in itself if probably tough to get used to as a new grad. But I will also be floating between the Long Term and the Rehab sides as well.

I expect it to be tough, and thought that being on one shift and having one group of residents would be better. But the more I think about it the more I feel that this will it give me the opportunity to try out this new career of mine and see what works the best for me, before committing to something long term.

Most importantly I want that 1 year of experience! Plus the money is GREAT!!

I start today with orientation and then its some training shifts and away we go. 24 residents who need meds, treatments & meal supervision. Not to mention all of that charting.

Am I crazy? :jester:

No, but you will be after the first few shifts hehehe. :) I too expected LTC to be tough, but it topped anything I could have imagined!!... oh and the money is great for a reason. ;)

Good luck to you in your new job and have a great day!
