Brand New CNA

Published

Just wanted to introduce myself and ask for a little advice/experiences. My name is Genevieve, I'm a 25 year old mom of 3 living in CO. I just acquired my certificate as a nurse aide. I also just completed and passed BLS for Healthcare Providers class/test.

I was wondering about getting a job. I posted my info to a job website and so far have only heard from one place that had bad reviews from employers. Ideally I would love to work in a hospital as I'm planning to go to school for nursing and eventually become a midwife. My fiance's job is very flexible, so he could work around any schedule I would have. I have no previous experience as a CNA and my last job (retail) ended in 2009. Any advice on how to go about acquiring a hospital job? Or advice to acquiring a CNA job in general?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. If possible, I would be picking up applications and/or picking up resumes from/to as many reputable LTCs, SNFs, and hospitals as you can. However, keep in mind that many hospitals want experience beyond just clinicals, but it can be a foot in the door. Research each locations state survey results and do your detective work before applying. Good luck.

I first off want to say congratulations and I also agree with the previous reply about picking up applications from reputable LTC's and assisted living facilities. Hospitals will more so hire you with experience. It's very rare that they will hire you without. I know it took me a year after i was certified to get a job. It was hard. I applied every day to every open position. I wish you the best of luck with your search.
