BNE psychological and polygraph test?????

U.S.A. Texas

Just wondering if anyone has had to have a psychological evaluation and a polygraph test performed after filing a declaratory order? An individual in my class had an arrest for a hot check in 99 and she just recieved a letter that the BNE is requesting a psychological evaluation and polygraph test be performed before they will allow her to test and be licensed. She stated that the letter told her a few places that this could be done and the price ranged from $1100 to $1500!!!!!:uhoh21: I too am worried because she stated that she contacted a secretary at the BNE and she stated that apperently most people who have filed a declaratory order are having to have this evaluation. She also contacted the doctors and each of them said they have done over 30 in the last month! Anyone with any info or insight regarding this matter?

Thanks

Did you ever find anything out about the psychological evaluation and polygraph test? I have to do that, and I am terrified. Did you/your friend get your license? Please let me know, so I know if it's worth the $1000 it will cost me. Thanks!

P.S. You can pm or email me.

What a pain in the butt!! This is a new random selection that the BNE is doing. It is worth the money. My friend did get her license and when she went to the test they laid out all the questions they were going to ask her and the answers that she was going to reply with. So don't fret too much. The money is the main thing to pay for it. But as long as you take the time to do it you should be fine. She went to some guy in Dallas Tx for her test. Good Luck. Keep me posted.

Could you find out who she went to for me? Dallas is the closest to where I am, so I would like to go there. If they lay out all the questions, then it shouldn't be so bad. I'm just nervous about the polygraph test because I've heard you can still fail it even if you are telling the truth just because you are nervous, and I know I will be tachycardic the whole time I'm doing it, lol! If you could find out that info for me, I would be greatly appreciative. I'm so ready to get my license! All my friends that I graduated with are RNs now and we work at the same hospital. I hate having to explain why I haven't gotten my license yet and having to work under them as a nurse's aide. I'm just ready to start my dream career. Thanks for the info, you have made me feel so much better!

Ask your doctor or NP/PA about taking a low dose of propranolol (5mg - 10mg) to calm you down before the test. It's being used off label for people who suffer from stage fright. I haven't heard of anyone using another beta blocker for this, just propranolol (?). I'm sorry you're having to go through all of this just to get your license. I knew the BNE was doing background checks, but I'm amazed that they are asking people to take polygraph tests. I also don't understand why they are dragging their feet on this. I was able to get my license to practice as an Adult NP in one week (same thing for my prescriptive authority) and that was back in September. You might want to try faxing information to them from now on, maybe that's the difference. GOOD LUCK!
