Ok, well I'm goin in fresh off the bat. I'm gonna be taking evening classes, but I'm confused about something. What classes do I need to register for? I've been through the forums and what I've gathered is:
ENG 101
PSY 100
MAT 104
BIO 425
But I've read that you have to complete CHE121 before you can take BIO425, and MAT012 or MAT051 before you can take MAT104.
So would that mean that for my 1st semester I should be registering for:
MAT 012 OR 051
CHE 121
Then my second semester:
PSY 240
Or am I getting something wrong here?
Also on bmcc's site, it's stated that evening class students must complete BIO425, BIO426, BIO420, PSY100 or SOC100. What exactly do I need to register for to get the prereqs out the way and how many semesters will it take me to knock em out?

hi there,
Your sched for 1st semester looks good. for 2nd sem u can take Bio 425, Psy 240, and Mat 104.
3rd sem= Bio 426, Bio 420(u can take micro wit AP2, with permission from bio department), and Eng 2. God willing, if u get in the program, ur 4th 5th 6th and 7th semesters will be clinical nursing courses. or to save a semester, u can take some of the courses like che 121, or mat 012/51 in the summer!
Good Luck!

I am also looking into the evening program for BMCC. But I just want to warn you that sometimes taking too many pre-reqs at once may affect your ability to really focus on each class by getting straight A's. The only way to get into the nursing program is to make straight A's in all of the pre-reqs. I think where some people mess up at is trying to hurry up and get them out of the way. Just be sure you can get A's while taking 3 & 4 classes at a time.
I'm personally taking it slow. I know I'm not too good in math or science so I'll be taking 1-2 pre-reqs at a time so that I can truly focus on getting all A's. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you well. Good Luck!

He's probably right about 3 1/2 years. It took me 3, but I had two transfer credits, and that's with taking some classes during summer sessions... The four classes Eng 101, Bio 425, Mat 104 and Psy 100 I believe are the first four grades that they look at during the acceptance process... But you need to take Bio 426, Bio 420 and Psy 240 to enroll since they don't let you take anything except nursing classes once you start evening program. And you need to take Che 121 befor taking Bio 425...
This is how I did it:
I semester : Eng 101, Che 121, Mat 104
Summer : Bio 425
II semester: Bio 426, Bio 420 and Psy 240 (I had Psy 100 and Speech transfered from my previous school)
Then I started nursing program and took Eng 201 next summer...
I assume you have to work and that is why you're looking into this program, but you should explore BSN options...

Thank you very much for your help. I have one more question: you are saying that 2 semester you took Bio 426 and Bio 420 together. However my adviser said that i cannot do it since pre for Bio 420 is Bio 426 or i do not understand something. Yes i am working full time that is why. What about you? Is it hard to study and work?
Thank you
Natalia
You can do it with the permission from the department. They allow everybody to do it. It was somewhat difficult, but doable. I liked the program and how they prepare you for NCLEX, the only thing is that is more difficult to find a nursing job with associate degree.
Thank you.
Can i take Bio 425 and Bio 429 together with permition from the department.
I'm not sure. I don't know anybody that did it, but they are pretty flexible and allowing.

I did my pre-reqs at night at BMCC. Here's some honest advice:
A. We called it the school of hard knocks, for a reason.
B. You are going to have to lie your way into classes (literally) sometimes. Administration often doesn't know what you need, and they are considerably understaffed. Make sure to read your handbook and look at pre/co-reqs.
C. If Dr. Slavin is still teaching A&P, take him. Trust me.
D. The escalators are almost always broken. Plan to get to class early.
E. The nursing program itself is almost impossible to get into, and even then you get an ADN instead of a BSN.
If, as you say, you are just starting out, I implore you to sit down and think long and hard if nursing is truly for you. Look at the job prospects, the people who have been looking for YEARS, and the current state of hospital health in NYC. You may be better served by PA school or Med school depending on your desires.
