It is official. I have called everyplace I can think of in my county and the 5 surrounding counties to find a phlebotomy class besides the ones at Ivy Tech State College (Indiana). Apparently they are the only ones who teach this in my state. It is a 4 semester course - which seems awfully long when other states have the course last 5 weeks or so. So Indiana residents - where did you learn phlebotomy if you were not in an LPN or RN program?
I have done all that is suggested in my county and the 5 surrounding counties. The problem is there is total control in this state by Ivy Tech State College. I would be in an LPN or RN program if there was space for me - this state has 10 times the people trying to get in as slots available. This is why many folks go into a different program like Radiology, medical assisting or phlebotomy (all 2 year programs here). Indiana just does not have the type of medical programs other state have. Often when talking to labs, hospitals and such - they recruit from out of state and even overseas because they cannot find trained people. Seems to me it would cost less to train the people here than recruit from overseas - but that is what they do.
