Good Morning,
I have just been accepted as a transfer into the 2 year BS Nursing program at Decker School of Nursing in Binghamton. I currently live in Brooklyn, and am very excited about moving to Binghamton. I have a few questions:
1. How much, for people who have done this program, can you work during it? I know that for the BAT program it is not possible at all. I was hoping to work part-time, since the program is two years.
2. It looks like, because BU is located on those beautiful 930 acres, that there is no neighborhood in the immediate vicinity for housing. I am looking for a studio or one bedroom. If you live on one of the bus lines is that generally sufficient and reasonable for getting around? Even if you live outside of Vestal, in say Endicott or Johnson City? Is there generally a mad rush for housing in August?
3. What is Binghamton like for adults? I am an older student (35) and am just curious what the community is like there.
I suppose I just am looking for an information anyone has about their experience in the two year program, and about housing. I would love to hear any feedback anyone has.
Thank you so much!

Hi! Looks like we'll be classmates. :) I'm a nontraditional transfer student too.
1. I have no idea. I am looking for answers too!
2. If you live on the bus line you should be fine. BU has their own bus system that has a route through the community. If you haven't secured housing yet it may be an issue. Lots of students sign their leases in May for the following year. You can make it here without having a car but you may have transportation issues once clinicals start as we have to provide our own way to get there. Carpooling is encouraged.
3. Binghamton is a far cry from Brooklyn but there is stuff going on. Downtown has some decent restaurants, art galleries, a few stores. First Friday is a popular event each month. There are yoga studios, gyms, small music venues, and college bars too.
Good luck with your move to the area. Happy to help out if you have other questions.
