Hi all, I'm interested in starting my journey in travel nursing, but I've read up on tons of travel companies and the reviews seem pretty terrifying... I have no idea where to even start. I was wondering if there are any companies that anyone might have anything overwhelmingly positive to say about. I work primarily ER but float to ICU, and I'd be looking to travel in an ER position.... Possibly Oregon, Alaska, Colorado, or New York. Any insight would be great, thanks!

Medstaff treated me well.
It's a personal opinion. Talk to some companies, ask them this same or similar question(s). If it feels like you are uneasy or uncomfortable at any point call #2 on your list, #3,#4. It's like buying a car: you have to trust the sales man, or be smarter than him.

I am an ER travel nurse and I work for Nurses RX. They are an AMN Helathcare company. They have lots of ER jobs available, especially in the areas that you mentioned above. There are several postings in Oregon and New York and they are ER specific. Iam currently on assignment in Seattle, WA and I have no complaints about the agency at this point. I think many of the negative reviews of travel companies are written by people who have way too high of expectations as far as the compensation and accomidations they think they should be getting. My accomidations are very nice not amazing 5 star but nice, similar to what I could afford if I was paying for them myself. As far as the wages go I am making several dollars more an hour than I was back home as a staff nurse, so no complaints there either. Travel nursing is hard work and there is for sure a huge adjustment period but it is a great way to experience lots of amazing places and see and do things that you could otherwise probably never do in a "normal" job. Travel nursing for me was by far the best decision I have ever made. Good luck to you, hope this helps!!!!

I have used Cross Country Travel several times and always been very happy with them. Just know that travel nursing has taken a dive in recent years along with the economy. Wages are low and generally speaking you need a tough skin to do this. That said I have had mostly positive experiences. Great way to see the country, working vacation so to speak.
Just be sure that you have enough money in savings to get "there" and back.
It is not uncommon to go to a job, only to find out you have been canceled. Make sure your contract has "guaranteed" hours and no penalty fees for you if you are canceled.
Visit the "Delphi Forum, travel nurses and therapists" for lots of great info, also a website called Pantravelers. Don't go till you have studied the how to carefully.
