Best stethoscope for postpartum/newborn unit

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hello all! I will be starting my first RN position in the postpartum/newborn unit and am starting my shopping trip soon for new uniforms, supplies, etc. Yay! I would like to know what is the best stethoscope to use for this unit? I've looked at Littman and know there is a wide variety and am willing to invest in a great quality. Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you! :D

I use a Littman classic on moms. The unit supplies newborn stethoscopes. If they didn't I would consider getting a pediatric stethoscope and using it for both moms and babies.

Littman cardiology III has a diaphragm to turn the bell into a peds one, so u have both adult and peds diaphragm. I work in peds and love that I have both sizes for my itty bitties as well as big teens. Granted, its not a newborn size. Just a thought, though. If you must have a newborn size, then just get that and use it on your moms.

our unit supplies the stethoscopes. They are adult sized and not as nice a Littman's but they do the job. If there is a suspected heart murmur or anything like that in the baby, we grab one of the good newborn steths out of the nursery. Same thing with mom-we grab one of the (few) littmans that are on the unit.
