Hi! I currently have my BSN and work on an inpatient Med/surg-Oncology unit. I'm currently working on my chemo cert. I am thinking about pursuing an NP in oncology but am not sure on the course to go with. Anyone have experience as NP in oncology? What course did you take? Also would love any kind of insight as to what your job duties look like. Thanks in advance!

Outpatient OCN here. All of the APRNs I've ever worked with in Oncology are FNPs. Many hired on without previous Oncology experience. I would keep connections where you are now. Do u work with any Onc NPs currently?

No, I don't 🫤 I work on an inpatient med-surg oncology floor but I only ever see the doctors and of course the fellow nurses, some of which have OCN. Thank you so much for the reply! I think I will maybe pursue OCN while I wait to go to school for FNP.

I would recommend adult/geriatric NP or adult/geriatric acute care NP with a focus on oncology unless you are more interested in pediatrics. Many universities offer these "subspecialties".
